New Born Baby Checklist

New Parent Having a first Baby? This newborn baby checklist is a complete list of newborn needs - everything your baby needs! You'll be prepared for one of the most precious days of your life! Remember when buying clothing - only buy a few in one size as your baby will grow very fast


Larger Items:
Infant safety seat/baby capsule for car transport
Stroller/pram
Moses basket or bassinet for when baby is first born
Crib/ cot ( see hints under Reduce the risk of SIDS)
Baby bath
Baby Change-table
Diaper bag/Nappy bag including change mat
Night light
Very comfortable chair for night-time feeding

Diapering:
2 pkts Newborn size
Wipes – disposable or washable
Baby ointment/barrier cream to prevent rash
Pail for soiled diapers

Clothing:
6 Onesies (lightweight, short sleeve, poppers over diaper area)
4 Sleepers/Grow suits (long sleeve, and legs, with poppers opening over diaper area – weight depends on climate)
6 Pairs socks or booties (booties tend to fall off all the time)
5 Baby Sleepers or nightgowns
2 Newborn hats (depending on climate)
2 Washable bibs
Cardigans (depending on season)
6 Singlet/sleeveless vests/undershirts - for hotter climates
Outing clothes (preferably don’t have to be pulled over the head)
3 Receiving blankets (lightweight blankets)
2 Swaddling blankets (cotton or muslin)
2 Blankets (according to season)

Bathing supplies:
2 Soft washcloths
2 Soft towels (with hood if preferred)
"Baby bath" solution or mild soap and shampoo
Baby hair brush and comb
Baby nail scissors or clippers
Baby massage oil
Cotton wool balls
Cotton buds (baby ones with one end enlarged so cannot be pushed too far and do damage)
Bath thermometer (optional)

Optional accessories:
Thermometer
Digital
Pacifiers /dummies
Nasal aspirator (ear syringe can also be used)
Sun shades for car window

Feeding:
Breast-feeding
Breast pads
V-shaped cushion
Breast-pump or something for hand expressing – including containers for expressed breast milk
Sterilizing equipment (Microwave, Electric, Chemical or boiling)

Bottle-feeding:
6 bottles and 6 nipples(teats)
Nipple brush
Bottle brush
Salt for cleaning nipples(teats)
Sterilizing equipment (Microwave, Electric, Chemical or boiling)
Formula (check with your Health Care Professional re which one)
Thermal bottle carrier
